Guiding Students Toward Automotive Careers
Helping students and parents explore real opportunities in today’s automotive industry

Building Tomorrow’s Technicians Together: Automotive Magic at the Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship Fair
At Automotive Magic, we know the transition from high school to the “real world” can feel big—for students and for parents. Students are trying to figure out what kind of career will feel meaningful and exciting, while parents want reassurance that their children are stepping into a future with stability, growth, and opportunity. That’s why we were proud to participate in the Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship Fair at Mount Olive High School, in partnership with the Workforce Development Board of Northwest New Jersey. Students from across the state were bused in to explore a wide range of skilled trades, including the ever-growing automotive industry, and we were excited to give them a look at what a career with us could truly be like.
Showing What Modern Automotive Work Looks Like
Today’s automotive technicians work with far more than wrenches and ratchets. Today’s vehicles are computerized, smart, and complex, and technicians use sophisticated diagnostic tools to identify problems and keep vehicles performing at their best. At the fair, our team brought along a selection of the tools used daily in our shop—equipment such as thermal imagers, diagnostic scanners, borescopes, coolant pressure testers, and even BG maintenance cleaning products. These tools sat on the table for students to explore up close, helping them imagine what working in a modern shop environment looks like. Many students were surprised to see how much technology is now part of automotive repair—and that the industry offers opportunities for people who enjoy hands-on work and critical thinking.
Brendan’s Presentation
Students also had the opportunity to sit in on a presentation from Brendan, who shared what a typical day in the automotive industry looks like, as well as the skills and mindset that help young technicians succeed. It was a chance for them to hear directly from someone actively working in the field—someone who understands the path, the opportunities, and the rewards that come with this career.
More Than One Path to a Great Career
We also wanted to reassure both students and parents that there is no single “right way” to enter the automotive industry. Some students choose trade programs at schools like Lincoln Tech or UTI. Others may attend community college to begin their studies close to home. And many start through hands-on apprenticeship programs like the one we offer, gaining real skills, real experience, and real career direction while learning in a professional shop environment. Each route can lead to a successful, long-term, well-paying career—what matters most is choosing the path that fits the student.

A Career With Real Momentum
One of the reasons we were excited to attend the fair is because the automotive industry needs new talent. There are more vehicles on the road than ever, and fewer new technicians entering the field. For young adults ready to jump into a career where they can grow quickly, learn constantly, and build a future they can be proud of, the automotive world offers opportunities in areas such as diagnostics, electric and hybrid systems, shop management, service advising, and even custom and specialty work. It’s a field where curiosity, intelligence, and ambition are rewarded.

Thank You to the Hosts
Events like the Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship Fair are invaluable. Students were able to explore table displays, speak directly with working professionals, and attend mini-presentations across industries ranging from medical technology and engineering to electrical unions, personal services, landscaping, and more. We were honored to be included and grateful to Mount Olive High School and the Workforce Development Board of Northwest New Jersey for putting together such a meaningful experience.
