History of Automotive Magic

Shawn's love of cars at a young age gave him the drive and ambition to open up his own automotive repair shop one day. Automotive Magic was established on April 1st, 2003. At first Shawn operated the shop by himself. As the number of customers began to grow he knew he needed to expand the shop. Automotive Magic grew from a one-man show to a full facility, staffed with quality team members. Our loyal customers and their families are what continue to drive Shawn forward in providing the highest quality service that makes the business what it is today. Shawn is proud to say that each technician is certified and continues their education by attending classes and training regularly. This keeps the staff updated with the changing technology of today's vehicles. Shawn believes what really sets Automotive Magic apart from other shops is the dedication and enthusiasm of the highly motivated staff. They are committed to keeping our customers happy and their vehicles safe and reliable.

After 7 years at the original location Shawn is happy to have moved into a new, larger facility right down the street at 34 Berkshire Valley Road in Kenvil. The new state-of-the-art facility is bigger and better, and designed to serve the needs of our customers. When you are in the area please feel free to stop in and see what Automotive Magic has to offer, take a tour of the shop or just to say hi!

“We have been, and always will be committed to Quality.”

Repairing anything mechanical has always been a passion of mine. My love of cars started well before I stood tall enough to reach the gas pedal. When I was just 12 years old I started to race go carts that I built with my father. Even though my mother was against me racing, she always supported me, as she still does today. I knew then that this was the career path I would pursue and my goal was to run my own successful repair shop some day.

Growing up, I loved to ride along with my father on his tool truck route and visit many local repair shops and dealerships, where my love of cars continued to grow. As a teen, I attended Roxbury High School and took auto shop class. In 1994 I graduated from high school and started to work as a technician at a few different local repair shops in the Roxbury area. Also, I had the opportunity to work on the pit crew team of an asphalt modified race car. Having gained lots of knowledge working for these shops, and from other opportunities, I gained insight into how I would want to run my own business one day.

In April 1st of 2003, my dreams came true and I opened the doors of Automotive Magic. I started as a one-man shop and later that year hired my first technician. In June of 2005 I broke my leg in a bad 4-wheeler accident and was bed ridden for 3 months. During this time, thanks to my family and loyal customers, the shop remained open. Special thanks to my brother, the contractor, who became an automotive tech and business manager overnight! I returned to the shop in a wheelchair in September of 2005. Fortunately, my leg healed and today I am back on my feet.

In January of 2006 I began taking Auto Repair Management Classes to further my education in the industry of auto repair. I graduated with honors and am constantly continuing my education to keep me updated with this ever-changing field.Shawn's family

I am married to my wife Lisa and have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kelsey and Jordan, with a third daughter on the way! Thanks to Lisa for putting up with all the hours I spend in the shop to make it successful! I couldn't do it without her strength and support and the support of my family and friends!

In my spare time I enjoy bowling, snowmobiling, playing darts, going 4 wheeling in my Jeep and going out on my quad (yes, I still take it out despite the broken leg)!

“I truly enjoy my job, especially talking with people and helping them out with their auto repairs.”

Hi everyone. My name is Nick Muscolino. I've been employed here at Automotive Magic since February of 2009. I look forward to coming into work every day. No joke. I truly enjoy my job, especially talking with people and helping them out with their car troubles. Prior to working here I was a technician for 10 years. I attended Lincoln Technical Institute after going to Iona College, and loved the challenge that cars contain. I really enjoyed my job as a technician, but wanted to further myself in the automotive business and learn more about it. So as fate would have it I met Shawn. After working here for a bit I was offered the option to go to some training classes for my current position. The classes offered to me were extremely helpful in my line of work and definitely in life.

Outside the auto business I have numerous interests. I enjoy riding my motorcycle whenever I can. I love going for a nice day of riding with some friends. This past June a couple of us rode up to Niagara Falls for a weekend. When I'm not riding you can probably find me on a golf course looking for my ball, or playing in the sand trap. I'm new to the sport but absolutely love it. And when the weather is too cold for those activities I also coach 3 three ice hockey teams. I have been involved with hockey since the age of 5, and have played my entire life. Growing up in Rockaway Township, I had the opportunity to play hockey whenever the lake across the street was frozen enough.

Well the above information sums me up in a few sentences. I encourage anyone who reads this, if you have any questions about me or the facility to please call me at (973) 366-3777 or Click here. Also, if you're in the area please feel free to come by to talk golf, bikes, cars, or hockey. And of course to pop in and just say hello.

“I am happy to be a part of the Automotive Magic Family.”

Before coming to work for Automotive Magic, I worked in the field of Early Childhood Education since 1993. In 2002 I was fortunate to be promoted from teacher to director. While working as the director it gave me the opportunity to enhance my computer skills and take part-time college courses. In 2006 I left my director position to go back to school full time and work towards a B.A. in Art Education/Art Therapy with a minor in Business. At the shop you will find me answering the phones and making customer service calls to ensure the happiness of our customers and the safety of their vehicles. I also enjoy talking to the customers and keeping the office organized!

When I'm not spending time playing games with my family or playing with my dogs, you can find me listening to music, cooking/baking, going for walks, water coloring, practicing my sign language or taking pictures. I am happy to be a part of the Automotive Magic Family and having a helping hand in making the shop successfully grow!

"I look forward to coming to work every day. It's more than just a job, it's a great experience."

I was born and raised in New Jersey. Since I was a little kid, I was always working on things. I went to County College of Morris while working as a bank teller and decided to go to Lincoln Tech to start working towards making a career for myself, working on cars. When I'm not working or at school, I enjoy riding my bike and quad, fishing and going to the beach. I love traveling and seeing new places.

I started working at Automotive Magic while I was attending Lincoln Tech. It is the best job and I work with the best people. I look forward to coming to work every day. It's more than just a job, it's a great experience. I've learned a lot since I started and can't wait to learn more and one day become top tech. I also go to training classes a few times a month to continue learning and keep up to date on the latest automotive technologies. On the weekends, I try to spend as much time as I can with my family and my girlfriend. I am very lucky to work at a great shop with great people.

Pat McGowen
Pat McGowan - Technician

"I'm a 29 year old New Jersey native and an ASE, L1 certified technician. My automotive career started out as a hobby when I was 16 years old. The first education I took to learn about cars was when I picked up a Hanes Manual to fix my first car, a 1978 Buick Skylark that my grandmother gave me – I haven't stopped learning since. I graduated from Lincoln Tech in 2002 and have a passion for anything mechanical. I started my career at a large dealership on the night shift while at LTI. I have primarily dealership experience, most recently for Nissan. I am a big fan of all things Jeep and off-roading, and have recently invested in a boat. I am learning the ways of the water – a very fun summer pastime! When I'm not in the shop, I enjoy building and wheeling my jeep, taking my boat out on the lake and just being outdoors. Leaning the outdoors with the Boy Scouts as a youth still plays a huge part of my life and I try my best everyday to continue the positive convictions instilled in me by the BSA. I am newly married and love spending time with my wife, camping, wheeling and boating with her, family, and good friends!

"It's great to be the new addition to Automotive Magic - I am excited to hit the ground running! I have found more passion, motivation, and enthusiasm at this shop than I have at any of the other shops that I have worked at, and am very happy to be a part of the Automotive Magic family!"

"I was born and raised in New Jersey. I'm 26 years old and have been working on cars since I was 15. I have 2 younger brothers that I've always been competing with and that carries over to my job. I want to be the best at what I do when it comes to working on and fixing cars. This is my second time working at Automotive Magic. I worked here a few years ago and now I'm back for round 2. I'm a horsepower junkie. I love working on and driving anything that's fast. My favorite cars are any Volkswagens with a VR6 and Chevy Camaros. My first car was a Camaro and I can't wait to own another one some day. I currently am working on getting more ASE certifications so I can be a more valuable asset to Automotive Magic. Eventually I plan on opening my own shop and having my own business. I have a 4 year old daughter who keeps me very busy when I'm not at work. She is defiantly a handful. In my spare time when I'm not working I enjoy going fishing, riding my jet ski and playing Xbox. Winning at Call of Duty puts a huge smile on my face."

"I was born in Newton and was raised in Stanhope. Some of my hobbies are skateboarding, snowboarding and kicking it with a good group of friends. I like Volkswagens and American muscle cars. Even as a young kid I was always intrigued by anything with a motor. I remember my dad taking me to air shows and car shows both civilian and military. I would always tinker with anything, taking it apart and putting it back together learning how all the mechanisms work. As I got older my dad would teach me as, he would fix most things that went wrong with cars in the family. I've been working since I was 14 so when I turned 16 I had the money to buy something I've always wanted which was a car. One of my strong points is how motivated I am to get what I want. Cars were always a passion of mine but I never thought I'd be doing it for career. I always planned on going to college to work on computers. I got a job delivering automotive parts to local shops, one of the shops I used to deliver to was Automotive Magic. The guys in the office were always friendly towards me and we would always joke around with each other. Over time I decided that I wanted to get a job here. I bugged them week in and out for a job and one day the position opened. I am very grateful to be working for such a promising company and with such a great group of guys. Every day is an exciting learning experience for me. I'm young and have a whole lifetime ahead of me and I'm eager to be a part of a company with such strong potential."

"I have been an automotive technician for more than 30 years. I started work on cars at 12 years old when I bought my first car. I have worked on everything from Air Cooled VW Beetles to Tractor Trailers. I have owned my own business for over 15 years. I had worked for General Motors and Ford in my younger years, gaining the experience and knowledge I use today.

My wife and I have 3 children, 2 daughters and 1 son all in college. I enjoy my family time and vacationing with our children. My hobbies include antique auto restoration, muscle cars, fabricating and building off road vehicles. I enjoy off roading with my wife and friends.

I am looking forward to a long career with Automotive Magic."
